Titan was flown in from Whati with the RCMP Officers responsible for their rescue. He was brought to our clinic by SPCA members December 5th, xxxx and has been at the Great Slave Animal Hospital since. Titan came to us very timid and shy towards people. He appeared to not have had proper socialization.
It took us a while to have a vet check done on Titan due to his behavior and poor socialization. We suspect that Titan fathered the two younger dogs and the orphaned puppy from Whati; Todd, Jeremy and Yuki respectfully. Todd and Jeremy came to us very timid with tight wire around their necks; Yuki was the sole survivor of her litter.
Working with our kennel attendant, Titan began improving but he needed to be out of the stressful kennel environment. He was placed in foster care.
Note from foster Parent:
When we got Titan he appeared to have severe trust issues with humans, and often didn't let people touch him. He would growl or move away in apprehension. He did not know what to expect from people and was uncomfortable around you unless you stood still without abrupt movements.
With most other dogs he growled when provoked. His fur had a yellowish tinge. His broken teeth speaks volumes of the life he led until he was rescued from Whati by the NWTSPCA and brought to Yellowknife where he was impounded at GSAH. For his well-being he was moved into foster care at Canadog Pet Camp and Boarding. Titan became a whole new dog. After only 2 weeks he developed a a face splitting grin that hasn't left his face. He has no reason to love people, but oh boy, we discovered he has so much love to give. He leans into you waiting to be petted. He is very affectionate...he's making up for lost time. He is wonderful off leash and is learning commands (sit, shake a paw), probably the first ones he ever learned that end with a treat!
The person who adopts Titan will need some understanding of his history. He takes longer than the average dog to trust people. He would not be comfortable in a loud house, such as in a house with small children. He is not used to rough playing or really busy situations. He would make a couple or an individual very happy.
He is working on housebreaking. He has never had a poo in the house, and is pretty good with not peeing in the house, but he is not yet potty trained! Titan loves to go running and I have been roller blading with him. It is obvious he was not given the opportunity to run before....a shame considering he is a husky! His love for running is evident when we go roller blading...he hops up and down in a very puppyish way, as if saying, look! look! I've always wanted to do this!
Titan is thought to be approximately 6 years old. He is a medium sized, quiet, male husky cross (possibly with a lab).
Also, please help spread the word - TITAN NEEDS AND DESERVES A FAMILY TO CALL HIS OWN!
